Bowski

Photobucket

Heres a few tracks from my favorite new producer Bowski, first heard about him a few days ago on 'Louis Louis' blog. All his tracks have a real 'Boy 8-bit' meets 'Style of eye' kind of vibe off them and they're full of really beautiful melody's and itchy drums.

My favourite is
Bowski - Hoovers (direct link)

this is the best 'Empire of the sun' mix ive heard yet
Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream (Bowski Remix)
(direct link)

And one more of his original tracks and another remix, both are great.

Bagheera - Cicadian clock (Bowski remix)(direct link)

Bowski - Flip Flop(direct link)

Also dont forget MrJones this week with Kit n Kiboodle/Toutless party and myself and Shortie Djing. More info here.

Bobby McFerrin

Basically this post is about how good and under appreciated Bobby McFerrin is. I reckon if you asked people who Bobby McFerrin was they wouldn't a breeze. But they don't realise they already know his music. He is most famous for his uplifting song "Don't Worry Be Happy". And that song is very good obviously, but it gets much better.
My brother showed me a video of Bobby about 2 years ago and since then I've been discovering better better material from him, mostly live. What makes him so good is natural music talent. He really has music in him. He is amazing at improvisation.
So here's a few sweet, sweet videos for you, all a capella.

This is the first video I saw of him.

This is him exploring the expectation part of our brain.

Florence and The Xx

First up here's a deadly a Capella performance from a group called "Ca Capella".

Next up is probably one of my favourite remixes this year by two promising artists. The XX, who are great little band, remixing Florence and the Machine's great cover of 'You've got the Love'. With the harps, and chilled out beats. This remix can be taken as slightly dubby and slighty chilled out.

Florence and The Machine - You've Got The Love (The xx Remix) drop.io link

Noob and Brodinski got together and made 'Peanuts Club'. Then Beatacue remixed it and made this club banger. I haven't heard it much in Dublin yet. But I expect to be played in most sets soon enough. I'll definitely be dropping it at this Sunday's Mr.Jones Alliance
party.

Mr. Meeble

I was just "stumble videoing" and came across the very cool video called 'I Fell Through' by Mr.Meeble. It starts off with some dude covered in all sorts of paints and coloured liquids and because it's reversed you have to watch it to the end. And the song is also very cool enjoy.
Mr.Meeble is electronica/indie/trip hop hailing from France. I checked out their Myspace and there is some really nice tunes there.

Also, here's just a bouncy, happy, housey mix tape I made for "True Stories" which is a night which runs every Tuesday night in the wonderful Bernard Shaw.

Tracklist: 30 Minutes

i. Walter Murphy - A Fifth of Beethoven (Soulwax Remix)
ii. Fake Blood - I Think I Like It
iii. Switch - A Bit Patchy
iv. Jesse Rose - A Night At The Dogs
v. Gramophonedzie - Why Don't You
vi. Thomas Schumacher - Sunset
vii. Foxy Brown - Oh Yeah (Spinstyles Remix)
viii. Lazy Jay - Float My Boat

DJ Z-Trip and Mystery Nicole

DJ Z-Trip Live in LA 2003

First up is a mix tape from an American Dj called DJ Z-Trip. If anybody out there likes Dj Yoda or Girl Talk, you will also like this. I was shown this recently at a party and it kept impressing again and again as it went on. So much so, that I think that it's one of the best mixtapes I've ever heard. He basically adds delicious hip hop beats to classic rock and pop songs. It works.

Next up is a song called 'Nicole' that I found on a compilation album about 4 years ago. It was the only decent song on that compilation and also the only song that didn't have the name of the artist. So I tried and tried to find the artist and never could. So to this day it's a wonderful mystery. If anyone would like to try find the artist, please do. Coz I would love to hear more stuff like this. Anyway here it is for you.

I want you back!

Photobucket
Just to add to what Colin said,
thought this shows how much we owe to him.
Its people who've sampled him.

also heres his amazing Thriller album.

Bye bye Michael Jackson

As everyone has probably heard, coz it's MASSIVE news, the legend and genius Michael Jackson died yesterday. I've seen a few people on the Internet saying that he doesn't deserve the title genius. But those people are just not educated enough. So just to clear it up, Michael Jackson wrote most of his songs. All except Thriller, as far as i know. And I really do think he does deserve the title genius, because his lyrics, melodies, productions and voice are all amazing. And to top it all off he was an unbelievable dancer. And to top it off even more his music videos were pretty much amazing too.
On the other hand, I was watching Sky News today and some dude said a nice thing about him. He said "Perfomers like Michael Jackson don't come once in a decade, or once in a generation, or once in a life time. They only come once."

So I'm just going to give you a couple of remixes that are worth mentioning. The first coming from Rogerseventytwo, who is definitely worth checking out. And his remix of The Jackson 5's 'I Want You Back' is definitely worth downloading.
The second track is the remix of 'Thriller' by DiscoTech, which isn't a brilliant track but it just modernizes and makes it even more club friendly. It's a handy one for djs to just thrown into a set.
And the last track is my favourite Michael Jackson track "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough', which is truly a disco masterpiece. It's one of those songs that, when the first beat comes in, you have to move. Genius.

Introducing Cillo

Cillo is a young electro producer hailing from our very own Dublin. After causing a bit of a stir at Soundcloud and getting air play in England, I thought it time to give him an introduction. With 8 tracks under his belt and constantly producing more, I think he'll go far.
Interestingly, he is also the lead guitarist and main song writer for a progressive metal band called Valediction.
He is very influenced and is making similar sounds to likes of Justice, Boys Noize and The Bloody Beetroots. But he does have a unique sound which is defintiely worth checking out. I especially like the hip hop influence and half time beats featured in his song 'Roots'. And my favourite song is 'Electro 101'. Please give his stuff a listen.

As Life Festival approaches, and Mr.Jones Soundsystem prepares, I've decided to throw together a few songs that we might be hearing on the weekend. These songs are basically all remixed or produced by the artists playing at Life. All worth owning.

Green Velvet - Shake N Pop (Tommy Trash remix) (Right-click, save as)

John Butler Trio

I came across this guy on youtube there the other day and was very impressed by not only the skill of the guitar playing, but the quality of the song writing. I've seen a few other guitarists who play in this style like Erik Mongrain, who is also amazing. But John Butler Trio takes the biscuit for this song called Ocean, played live.

Please watch.

I uploaded an mp3 of this performance, because I reckon it's good enough to just have on your ipod or whatever.

Dub FX

I stumbled on this guy a few days ago and I can't stop listening to him!
I can't find much about him other than that he comes from St Kilda in Melbourne, Australia. And after being in various bands he decided to tour the world, busking with his girlfriend, "Flower Fairy", from city to city!
He uses a Roland BOSS loop station, and various effects including octave pedals and reverbs etc. He layers his voice over and over and produces a track live. And he's fucking good at it.

Just check him out:

Redlight indicates doors are secured!

After listening to Rusko's essential mix over and over and over (get it, it's whopper!) I kept waiting for it to hit a certain bit every time! This bit, amidst all the grimy filthy lovely Dubstep goodness, was so energetic and fun yet fit perfectly in the mix. Rusko you legend...
When i got around to looking it up, It turns out it's "Redlight and the Voodoos"... Yeah, never heard of them either. So I poked around and discovered that Redlight is the alter ego of "Clipz". Clipz has made a name for himself on the Drum and Bass scene over the last few years with his energetic ravey style. Catching the attention of Roni Size and getting signed to Full Circle records at 22. Prick!
I checked out Redlight and he's got some great stuff going! I believe he's producing at the moment so keep an ear out.
It seems he's mates with Rusko so I can't get my hands on a copy of the tune in Rusko's mix... yet!

Here's the bit from the mix anyhow:

Here's a good half-hour mix too (and he finishes off with a bit of Dubstep and the amazing Skream remix of LaRoux we all love so much!!):

Redlight - AK47 Mixtape (Right-click, save as)

Tracklist:
1. Redlight - Kid Soldier
2. Redlight - Rock The House
3. Toddla T & Herve - Shake It
4. Jack Beats & Dynamite MC - What (Boy 8 Bit remix)
5. Yo Majesty - Don't Let Go (Redlight Bashy mix)
6. Dub Pistols - Daylight (Redlight remix)
7. Zinc - Horror
8. Roots Manuva - Do No Bodda Me (Redlight remix)
9. Filthy Dukes - This Rhythm (Toddla T remxi)
10. Rusko & Redlight - Rats
11. Magnetic Man - The Cybermen
12. Jakes - Rock The Bells
13. La Roux - In For The Kill (Skream remix)

Here's a decent remix of Kraak & Smaak:

Aeroplane take you higher!

The buzz is all about Aeroplane at the moment! With all the trashy electro and filthy techno about these days (which i LOVE don't get me wrong!) Aeroplane are dishing out a breath of fresh air with this balearic-y, disco-y, italo goodness!
They're mixmag's new babies too and they just released a fantastic mixtape aptly titled "Disco Balearica" which you can find on the current Mixmag or IDJ magazine.
The duo, from belgium released their first 12" in 2007 on Eskimo Records and since then have quickly ascended the ranks! Getting propositioned to do remixes for the likes of Bloc Party, Cut Copy, Das Pop, MGMT, Grace Jones and Friendly Fires. Furthering the inde/dance partnership that has been thriving over the last couple of years.
Oh, and the two lads, Stephen Fasano and Vito Deluca, got together when Stephen got to know Vito through buying records in Vito's record shop!!... fantastic...

So, since I haven't posted in ages again, I'm gonna treat yiz a bit!

Here is their fantastic mixmag mixtape:
